Thursday, March 1 – Travel

  • Fly to Europe (overnight if you are leaving from North America). You can also travel to Salzburg a day or so earlier. Just let David Nelson know and he can arrange for your room in the group hotel.

Friday, March 2 – Salzburg

  • Arrive in Salzburg
  • check into our hotel, relax, and begin to explore Salzburg
  • Group dinner

Saturday, March 3 – Salzburg

  • Walking tour with a local guide
  • Group lunch
  • Visit St. Sebastian’s Cemetery, burial site of Leopold and Konstanze Mozart
  • Group dinner

Sunday, March 4 – Salzburg

  • Attend mass in the Salzburg Cathedral. This always features a great choir
  • Group lunch
  • Two Mozart Museums: the Birth House and Apartment
  • dinner on your own

Monday, March 5 – Salzburg

  • Sound of Music Tour, seeing several picturesque sites, including a drive through the beautiful lake country east of Salzburg
  • Lunch on your own
  • Free time in the afternoon
  • Dinner Concert at Peterskeller. This is a delightful evening at the oldest restaurant in Europe and features a chamber orchestra and operatic arias by Mozart.

Tuesday, March 6 – Salzburg to Vienna

  • Take train from Salzburg to Vienna (about 3 hours)
  • Group lunch
  • orientation walk of central Vienna
  • Group dinner
  • concert of NDR Elbphilharmonie at the Konzerthaus (Mozart and Mahler)

Wednesday, March 7 – Vienna

  • Walking tour of Vienna with a local guide
  • group lunch
  • tour of the Vienna State Opera house
  • Dinner on your own
  • Baritone recital of Schubert songs in the Brahms Hall of the Musikverein

Thursday, March 8 – Vienna

  • Collection of Historic Musical Instruments

  • (optional) Schubert Birth House Museum and his childhood neighborhood

Friday, March 9 – Vienna

  • Walking tour of Beethoven’s Heiligenstadt, where he spent several summers and realized he was deaf (Beethoven museum, several of Beethoven’s homes, lots more)
  • Group lunch
  • Optional visit to Mahler’s grave
  • Dinner on your own
  • Attend Johann Strauss, Jr’s “Die Fledermaus” at the Volksoper

Saturday, March 10 – Vienna

  • Visit the Central and St. Marx Cemeteries (graves of Beethoven, Brahms, Schubert, Strauss, Schoenberg; memorial to Mozart in the area of his unmarked grave.)
  • Group Lunch
  • optional visit to the Haydn Museum
  • Afternoon and Dinner on your own
  • Attend concert Bruckner Orchestra Linz, Bruckner’s 8th Symphony

Sunday, March 11 – travel, or stay to hear the Vienna Boys Choir (optional)

  • The tour is officially over, but you may wish to attend mass in the Imperial Chapel of the Hofburg to hear the Vienna Boys Choir. This begins at 9:15am and is over at approximately 10:30am.

Price

  • $2695 per person, double occupancy.
  • A guaranteed single room is available. The single supplement is $450.
  • For those traveling alone, you may be placed in a double room with another person of the same gender traveling alone. Depending on who signs up for the trip, you may be in a double or a single room, and will still pay the double-occupancy price. The only guaranteed single rooms are for those paying the single supplement.
